Issue 20 preview / quick note about Youtube

issue20

It may not seem like it, but we’ve been working mighty hard on Issue 20. I’ve said this a few times, so I’ve decided to show you the issue in its entirety as proof (as a Final Cut timeline screenshot of course).

The video will be here on February 3rd, but for those of you who just can’t wait, please enjoy this promo video starring none other than Sturgil Horn. Yeah. Start getting hyped.

Regarding Youtube – This probably isn’t worth mentioning, but that’s the fun of blogs right?

In the interest of mobile devices and my overall convenience, I’m going to start switching all Post22 videos over to Youtube.  This will mean more content and slightly lower video quality.  If you care or if you don’t care, leave a comment and let me know.  Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

man youtube is beefing their game up as far as quality goes. 720p looks pretty damn slick. im for it.

  3. jevans says:

    youtube quality looks good

  4. Templeton says:

No YouTube at work mean no Post 22 at work now too. But I understand…

I don’t know about you but the last few videos (film & destroy comes to mind) played on my iPhone without issue, it was the first QT video I saw play on one of those to be honest. YouTube quality now is on par anyway so I wouldn’t really sweat it.

LaClair – I think it works on the 3GS but not the 3G. Youtube quality is ok, but sometimes it does weird things with framerates. Whatever though, it’s so easy, and the branding is so accepted, it doesn’t urk me much anymore.

Temp – You are one of the reasons why I haven’t switched yet, but I work at a Linux company and nobody uses Quicktime there so I was in a bit of a dilemma. For Issue 20 and some of the more important videos, I’ll include a link to the Quicktime file for you.

Why are none of the videos uploaded to 720p? Can’t you even choose to embed them at 720p? That would look way better than 480 I would think.

  8. admin says:

Jason – I need to figure out what type of compression Youtube likes best. I just switched over, so I doubt I’m using the right bitrate. I’ll fix it soon.

The iPhone supports vimeo content now.. why not go w/ that?

  10. LaClair says:

Youtube or not, I’m just glad Sturgil didn’t kill anybody.

  11. T Kirk says:

put that shit up on youtube man i want to see you guys rippin and i think we’d all survive with low video qual.

  12. admin says:

Jerry – You can’t embed Vimeo yet. You have to watch the videos from vimeo.com

  13. Jason says:

    itsn’t it just 1280×720 at 5000-6000 kbits?

I think you should make it to where you have a choice between YouTube and the other because the videos worked fine on my iPhone and the quality was amazing which Is what makes your videos so great

  15. Max says:

Keep it on your own uploads, youtube can be buggy and I won’t be able to watch you guys from work!

  16. Diego says:

keep the d/l links!! using MPlayer works fine on Linux… and YouTube is blocked in China

  17. Ben Ericson says:

Youtube is great, man. Let them use their bandwidth… although, this may give people less of a reason to come to your site. I’m not sure. Really diggin’ the camera setup and such. I liked the interview about the small cheap cameras. Definitely the way to go.

I do the same thing. Vimeo & Youtube. Lots of cats don’t have computers but will see the Facebook link on the Iphone and take it from there. Got to give the kids what they need. I actually am pretty content with the Youtube quality from an HD file these days.

  19. Zack McTee says:

you can embed vimeo and the quality/community are way beyond youtube. There’s actually a huge skateboarding community on vimeo already too.

  20. Luke says:

I too, have a Hv40 and FCP. What codec do you import with, Prores 422? And what bitrate are you using for the youtube compression?

  21. Admin says:

I just import and edit with HDV. HDV isn’t very processor intensive, so I’ve found it a joy to work with. I use between 4000-6000 for Youtube I think.
